Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how News Team Group Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects personal data when you use the News Team Drivers mobile application (the “App”). The App is provided to drivers and contractors working with News Team Group Limited to record delivery routes.

We are the data controller for personal data processed through the App. You can reach us at contractorcare@newsteamgroup.co.uk or via https://www.newsteamgroup.co.uk.

1. Data we collect

The App is designed to collect only the data needed to operate it:

• Precise location data (foreground and background). While you are signed in and have an active round, the App records GPS fixes (latitude, longitude, accuracy, speed, heading and timestamp) so we can reconstruct your delivery route. Location tracking starts when you tap Start and stops when you tap End. Background tracking is used so recording continues if your screen locks.
• Account credentials. Your work email address and password are used to sign you in via AWS Cognito. Passwords are never visible to us and are managed by AWS Cognito’s secure authentication service.
• Account identifier. A stable user identifier (the Cognito sub claim) is associated with each location fix so we know which driver recorded the route.
• Device and diagnostic information. Basic technical information such as operating system version, app version and connectivity status, used to diagnose problems and improve reliability.

The App does not collect contacts, photos, browsing history, microphone audio, advertising identifiers, or any data not listed above.

2. How we use your data

• To authenticate you and keep your session active.
• To record the route you take while delivering, so we can verify coverage, support contractor payments and resolve customer queries.
• To diagnose technical faults (for example, lost connectivity or failed uploads) and improve the App.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling unrelated to your work, or sale to third parties.

3. Legal basis (UK GDPR)

We process this data under the following legal bases:

• Performance of a contract — to operate the services you provide for News Team Group Limited and to administer contractor payments.
• Legitimate interests — to verify delivery coverage, investigate disputes and maintain the security and reliability of the App.

4. How your data is stored and shared

Location fixes are first written to a local SQLite database on your device so the App keeps working with no signal. When connectivity is available, fixes are uploaded to our backend hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the United Kingdom / European Union region.

We share your data only with:

• AWS — our infrastructure provider, hosting authentication (AWS Cognito) and backend services that receive your location data.
• News Team Group Limited staff with a legitimate need to view route or payment information (operations, contractor payments and support).

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.

5. Retention

Location data is retained for as long as it is needed to verify deliveries, calculate contractor payments and resolve disputes, typically up to 24 months, after which it is deleted or anonymised. Account records are retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal and accounting obligations.

6. Your rights

Under UK and EU data-protection law you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• request that inaccurate data be corrected;
• request deletion of your data, subject to legal exceptions;
• object to or restrict certain processing;
• request a copy of your data in a portable format;
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

7. Children

The App is intended for adults working with News Team Group Limited. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be communicated through the App or by email.
